Sloppy FirstsAuthor: Megan McCafferty
Series: Jessica Darling (#1)
Publisher: Three Rivers Press
How Received: library
“My parents suck ass. Banning me from the phone and restricting my computer privileges are the most tyrannical parental gestures I can think of. Don’t they realize that Hope’s the only one who keeps me sane? . . . I don’t see how things could get any worse.”
When her best friend, Hope Weaver, moves away from Pineville, New Jersey, hyperobservant sixteen-year-old Jessica Darling is devastated. A fish out of water at school and a stranger at home, Jessica feels more lost than ever now that the only person with whom she could really communicate has gone. How is she supposed to deal with the boy- and shopping-crazy girls at school, her dad’s obsession with her track meets, her mother salivating over big sister Bethany’s lavish wedding, and her nonexistent love life?
All in all, it was a pretty good book - my friend Megan recommended it to me, so it had to be. It wasn't what I normally read, but I enjoyed it and plan on reading the sequel ASAP.
For me, I was beginning to get bored until halfway through the book where Marcus Flutie, genius/drug addict/'Krispy Kreme' manages to worm his way into her heart. I won't tell you what happens once that happens, of course... it would ruin the book!
Overall Rating & Final Comments: Eight out of ten -- the writing was good and the plotline was good, but it took a while to get into it.
Sloppy Firsts or Does My Head Look Big In This?: It depends on how graphic you want to get thought-wise. Sloppy Firsts has Jessica mention some of her more -cough- mature thoughts, while Does My Head Look Big In This? is a bit more toned-down.
Happy reading!

Yayyyy!!!! You read it ^^ I am in love with the series and eagerly awaiting the fifth and final installment.
ReplyDeleteA bunch of my friends read that series when we were in high school. I am debating reading those or the Gossip Girl series just for fun. Which do you think would be better?
ReplyDeleteHmm. I'd go with Sloppy Firsts for right now, though the Gossip Girl series looks really good. I don't think the world realizes they're also books; it's not just a show...
