To Catch a Pirate

To Catch a Pirate
Author: Jade Parker
Series: ---
Publisher: Point
How Received: borrowed

Once caught, it’s harder still to let a pirate go

When Annalisa Townsend’s ship is set upon by pirates in search of her father’s treasure, one of the crew, James Sterling, discovers her in the hold. When he moves to take her necklace, she begs him not to, as it is all she has left of her mother. He accepts a kiss in exchange for the necklace. “A fair trade, m’lady,” he tells her afterward, before disappearing.

A year later, with a forged letter of marque, Annalisa is intent on hunting down the wretched James Sterling and reclaiming her father’s treasure from him. But now she’s in danger of him stealing something far more vulnerable this time: her heart.

She Who Loves Books lent me To Catch a Pirate a few days ago and, I must say, she has great taste in the topics of books. Vampires and pirates. Nice combination, if I do say so myself.

You can't not love this book - it's about pirates, for pete's sake! Everybody loves pirates. It had a pretty good plot line, but the characters were a bit weak, and I couldn't picture everything as well as I normally can.

Overall Rating: 8 out of 10.
To Catch a Pirate or A Countess Below Stairs?: That all depends on your preference of romance - a hidden countess that falls in love, or a right out there lady that falls in love against her will.

Happy reading!

  1. I read this one and enjoyed it too. You should try to find Jean Ferris' Into The Wind series. I'm not sure if they are still in print but it's a great pirate trilogy. And I think the characters are much stronger than this book, maybe cause they are built up over the course of three books.

  2. Em: I'll attack Bookmooch and see if anybody's listed it. ^^

Series usually have stronger characters because they have the chance, in the first book, to work more on plot and give the other books time to build up character, or vica versa.

Hey guys! I got this book at our school book fair and this is one of the best books that I've ever read. I must agree that it was a little weak around the characters but none-the-less it was an amazng book. I've just got one question: In the end of the book it says that he renounced his pirating ways and that he had returned to get Annalisa so that they could sail the seas together. So do you think that he finally took her with him or not?
P.S. Another good series in the Twilight Trilogy!!!

  4. Of course! That's why he said "You're the only treasure I'll ever need." at the end!! ^_^ He had to have taken Anna with him! I loved the characters, I don't think they were weak at all!

  5. I loved this book, it is one of my favourite books now!

I found it alot like Twilight; not all about pirated ot vampires, mostly about love.

I didn't think that it was weak in it's characters at all, it didn't even come to my mind. Infact, i preffer books that don't take pages and pages up to explain a character, it's quite draining.

    This book is great!!!

  6. I loved the book! I agree with Mina. They don't seem very weak, except maybe Anna in the beginning.

    Best book I ever read!

  9. To catch a pirate is about a girl called Annalisa whose father has been assigned by the King himself to take a treasure to an island to build a palace. But their ship has been set upon by pirates. She is found in the hold by James Sterling who she describes as having midnight black hair and eyes as green as the sea. He is about to take her necklace when she begs him not to and she says she values the necklace more than her tongue which he had threatened to cut. He instead steals her ring and a kiss.

A year has passed and Anna is now a pirate hunter. Captain of 'The Dangerous Lady' and is intent on hunting down the wretched James Sterling and reclaiming the treasure to release her father who was suspected of piracy. She catches Sterling but things don't go according to plan and she finds herself falling for the cocky Pirate, Who steals her heart!
