Confessions of a Shopaholic

Confessions of a Shopaholic
Author: Sophie Kinsella
Series: Shopaholic (#1)
Publisher: Dell Publishing
How Received: school library

Rebecca Bloomwood just hit rock bottom. But she's never looked better....

Becky Bloomwood has a fabulous flat in London's trendiest neighborhood, a troupe of glamorous socialite friends, and a closet brimming with the season's must-haves. The only trouble is that she can't actually afford it -- not any of it.

And all that is told in an unique perspective - a combination of diary and addressing your best friend.

I enjoyed this a lot more than I thought I would. I expected something along the lines of Sloppy Firsts but without as much humor and dull points (after all, the only thing I'm obsessed with buying is books. And music. And chocolate. And... um... never mind.) But once you got past the fact that she worked in finance, and that parts of the book mentioned very financial-y things, it was actually quite interesting and funny. Sophie's voice is very unique in the way she spins Becky's story, and, against all odds, I was able to relate to Becky.

Overall Rating & Final Comments: 8/10 - it was a good book, but it wasn't a great book.
Angus, Thongs, and Full Frontal Snogging or Confessions of a Shopaholic?: Pick an age group. If you want a more teenage outlook on life, go with Angus, Thongs, and Full Frontal Snogging - it's also much more embarrassing than Confessions of a Shopaholic.

Happy reading!

  1. Yeah, this book was okayish I suppose.

Have you read her other books like an Undomestic Goddess? I think as well as Can you Keep a Secret?
    They're really good. xD

  2. Reader Rabbit: No, I haven't read her other books yet (might be due to lack of them at our library). I'll be sure to check them out, though!

  3. Well that's a very timely topic for a book, given how much in debt so many folks are these days.

I don't particularly enjoy shopping, but I have to admit, I could easily go broke buying things like books, cooking implements, & gardening supplies!

  4. Heather: I could definitely go broke if nobody was there to restrain me in Borders or B&N, or even one of the littler chain bookstores.

What do you have to say, my fellow bookworms?
