Airman, which takes place during the 1890, follows the life of Conor Broekhart - son of the king's bodyguard and best friend to the princess. The king is a scientific man, always looking ahead, and when Conor saves his daughter from an explosion (that she accidentally caused) in the laboratory, he's knighted at the tender age of ten and is set for a lifetime of... well, endless possibilities.
Nobody thought one of those possibilities would be being accused of murdering the king, being sent into a prison, and rotting your life there.
The power hungry marshall of the islands, Hugo Bonvilain, kills the king and sends Conor off to prison - to the world, dead in attempting to save the king. To Bonvilain, a tool to use if his father becomes too free willed. To Conor - a lifetime of unhappiness.
But the one thing Conor has always had is his love of flight - and so he scratched designs of airplanes and gliders into the wall at night, waiting for his chance to escape. After two years, it finally arrives. But what is Conor to do...
And there I leave you with the plot summary. ^^
First of all, I must apologize to Liv who pointed out that I missed her FANTABULOUS contest in the lists of contests. She's giving away a signed copy of Meg Cabot's Jinx - you can enter by clicking here. (There, happy now, Liv? X3)
I really enjoyed this book. I'd like to go out on a limb here and say it's even better than his first Artemis Fowl book (and as that's one of my favorite series, that's saying something.) It was well written, I could relate to the characters, and I was rooting for Conor the whole time. All in all, it was a fantastic read that invited the reader in from start to finish without slowing down the plot line.
Overall Rating: 10/10.
Happy reading!
~Nicole
