Madapple

Madapple
Author: Christina Meldrum
Series: ---
Publisher: Knopf Books
How Received: ARC
Comes Out May 13

A girl who has been brought up in near isolation is thrown into a twisted web of family secrets and religious fundamentalism when her mother dies and she goes to live with relatives she never knew she had.

I was quite hesitant about reading this. It sounded like a decent book, but my mind kept going, "Yeah, a good plot line, but it won't live up to the idea."

It lived up to the idea.

I loved this book. I managed to put it down, simply do to the fact that my brain needed time to compute what was going on and try to figure out what would happen next. In between each chapter of Aslaug's life, you get a little snippet of the trial - a lawyer interviewing somebody, and you get an idea of what will happen next. You end up torn: All the signs point to Aslaug killing Sara and Susanne, but it's so blatantly obvious from what you know of her that she didn't do it.

Not only that, it was written fantastically, and I learned a lot about religions and herbs while I was at it. The tale was invigorating, and I have to say, it's one of the best books I've read in a long time. For the last chapter, I was sitting up in my bed, eagerly awaiting to see what would happen next - because the plot doesn't end until the very last page. (Literally). A fantastic book, and a must read when it comes out.

Overall Rating: 10/10, easy. Actually, I shall give it an 11/10, that's how good it was!
Madapple or Digital Fortress?: The only reason I'm comparing these two books is that they're both mystery, and it's not fair to Digital Fortress, because Madapple blows it out of the water. Madapple ranks Digital Fortress by miles.

Happy reading!

  20. This fellow bookworm says:

WHOA! Blown out of the water! Sheeeewwwww--BOOM!

XD Great review! Now I really have to go reserve this at the library. Books on herbs/poisons/etc always interest me and now that I have solid evidence that it's written beautifully, to the library we go! (Actually, to the ONLINE library we go, since it's hard to go to the library when one doesn't have a car...or even a permit. XD)

I LOVE your reviews. They're so clear and concise. (Oh jeez. I sound like my English teacher. *wince*)

    Great review!
