The earth has been invaded by a species that take over the minds of their human hosts while leaving their bodies intact, and most of humanity has succumbed. But Melanie Stryder refuses to fade away. Wanderer, the invading "soul" who has been given Melanie's body, knew about the challenges of living inside a human: the overwhelming emotions, the too vivid memories. But there was one difficulty Wanderer didn't expect: the former tenant of her body refusing to relinquish possession of her mind. Melanie fills Wanderer's thoughts with visions of the man Melanie loves--Jared, a human who still lives in hiding. Unable to separate herself from her body's desires, Wanderer yearns for a man she's never met. As outside forces make Wanderer and Melanie unwilling allies, they set off to search for the man they both love.--From publisher description.
This book had the same starting problem Twilight did - it starts off, and you're saying to yourself, 'Where is this going?' Later on, it makes complete sense to you why it started off the way it did, but it's a bit hard to get into.
Every character in the book was fleshed out, well written - and those who seemed one sided were proven not to be later. I didn't fall in love with any of the characters, but I was rooting for Melanie/Wanderer all the way. The plotline was intriguing and original, and it was odd to have two loves for one man in one body...
All in all, it was a very enjoyable book. The plotline slowed at some parts, and I found myself able to put it down then - but not for long, because I did want to know what happened. I did love the ending. (Haha, no spoilers for you! ^^)
Overall Rating: 8/10.
The Host or Twilight?: The comparison everybody will make... The Host has a much more original plotline, but I find myself much more drawn to the characters in Twilight, and there is a lot more action there.
Happy reading!

This is definitely a riveting book but I agree that I like Twilight better. Although to be fair, I'm not a big sci-fi fan so that's probably why. :-)
ReplyDeleteEm: I'm a HUGE sci-fi fan, so it was hard and easy for me to judge it.
ReplyDeleteI really liked The Host...but I felt that it was really drawn out.
ReplyDeleteI thought it was a bit slow in the beginning, but get past the first few chapters and you'll be glad you didn't give up on reading it.
ReplyDeleteI liked that it was drawn out. When i get caught up in a good book I never want to put it down, I want to keep living in the world its created in my mind. ;)
