The Hunger Games

The Hunger Games
Author: Suzanne Collins
Series: The Hunger Games (#1)
Publisher: Scholastic
How Received: borrowed

Sixteen-year-old Katniss is smart, athletic, and fast. She can take down a rabbit with a bow and arrow, hitting it straight through the eye. Will these skills be enough to survive the Hunger Games?

Suzanne Collins, the author of the middle-grade fantasy series The Underland Chronicles begins anew, exploring a future landscape that will be familiar to devotees of science fiction's dystopic strain. In a nation called Panem, which occupies the landmass that is the present United States, a parasitical fascist Capitol dominates 12 conquered districts. There was a thirteenth district but it was obliterated during a rebellion. The totalitarian government keeps the subjected populations in line by threatened devastation, starvation, and brutality.

Here's how the day I got the book went.
Kellyn: Nicki, you have to read this! It's amzazing!
Me: Okay!
-goes home at four o'clock and starts reading-
-three hours later-
Me: -stalks into living room-
Mom: What?
Me: KELLYN WILL PAY!!!
Mom: O_o Why?
Me: Because I want the next book in the series now!
Mom: -stares-
Me: -stalks out-

Yes. I liked it. A lot. Stephenie Meyer (and my friends) have great taste in books.

Overall Rating: 10/10.
The Hunger Games or Twilight?: Sorry, Steph, Hunger Games wins. The charries fall in love slower and it's just fantasmagorically amazing.

Happy reading!

  6. I ADORE this book, and I did almost the exact same thing! I sat on my bed from 4:00 until 7:30 and couldn't put it down. Then I made my my devoted Dad take me to Borders to buy a copy of the sequel! I can't wait to read the third book, and the movie looks like it will be great!!! This book is by far the best I've read since Twilight! I know I found out about it a little bit late, but at least I found out at all! Check out my site @ www.hugergamesfansite.com

  7. This is definitely better than Twilight, I agree. It's one of my most favorite books I've ever read and the sequel is just as good. These are going to (hopefully) make awesome movies!
