Mississippi JackAuthor: L.A. Meyer
Series: Bloody Jack (#5)
Publisher: Houghton Mifflin Harcourt
How Received: bought
The intrepid Jacky Faber, having once again eluded British authorities, heads west, hoping that no one will recognize her in the wilds of America. There she tricks the tall-tale hero Mike Fink out of his flatboat, equips it as a floating casino-showboat, and heads south to New Orleans, battling murderous bandits, British soldiers, and other scoundrels along the way. Will Jacky's carelessness and impulsive actions ultimately cause her beloved Jaimy to be left in her wake?
My least favorite of the Bloody Jack novels, because Jacky gets closest to falling in love with somebody else.
At least her and Jaimy are united at the end!
Jacky is captured again - but not for long! With the Lawson Peabody schools attacking her captors and her impressive troope of actors playing the British soldiers and getting her 'transfered' to another ship, she is free to roam the sea again - and this time, she plans on both pursuing Jaimy and running a little floating tavern. Or maybe not so little... 'specially when she makes some new friends and meets some new enemies along the way!
I love the Belle of the West, and I love her friends, but I can't stand her new love interest (though Jaimy always takes her heart, it annoyed me that she stuck with this one for so long). Besides that, amazing as always.
Overall Rating: 9/10. This romantic interest really annoyed me.
B-: ... yup. You guessed it. Always Bloody Jack!
Happy reading!

You haven't read My Bonny Light Horseman yet, have you? Talk about a longer love interest in someone else--and someone who's not nearly as interesting as Richard....
ReplyDeleteheyy.. u are a bit light on the book aren't you? i gave it a 7.5/10
ReplyDeleteNope, I haven't read My Bonny Light Horseman yet - thanks for the warning. XD
ReplyDeleteAneesa, as much as I don't like Richard, everything else makes up for it. ^^ If Jacky's in it, it will probably never get less than an 8 at most.
hey nicole, sorry im writng this onan older post, but i know thatu always have the comments emailed to you. Isn't it cool that Anisha Something (temporary memory blankout) posted a comment? Now your REALLY catching the public eye! Congrats! Btw, I MIGHT (please dont get ur hopes up) do an article on your blog for the Markham Economist and Sun.. okay with u?
ReplyDeletethis was my least favorite of all the books, but not because of the love interest. (i personally can't stand Jaimy, so I think Richard is her best love yet.) I didn't like it because LA Meyer made jacky seem like a bad
ReplyDeleteguy: she stole a boat, killed all those "Injuns", she worked at a brothel, she kisses Richard naked, and much more. Jacky just gets worse and worse as the series goes on and pretty soon i may start hating her!
