That same evening, Drake Dunfellow is chosen by a dark angel who “fell from heaven,” to stop him. Both boys are given powerful gifts from the angels to complete their tasks.
Caught between two worlds, Ryann and his friends Liddy and Terell struggle to unravel the mystery of the sword’s location while seeking help from mythical creatures and talking animals in the heavenly Aeliana.
Enter the worlds of spiritual warfare and fantasy, where the real and unreal converge, good and evil clash, and only one can be victorious.
This book was far more religious than I thought it would be, but I enjoyed it nonetheless. It's a fun little fantasy novel; Aeliana is described as a beautiful place. (It sounds a lot like the world of Fincayara Merlin goes to in The Lost Years of Merlin when describing beauty, but the similarities end there.) I learned a lot about the Bible from there, too - it's filled with various quotes that help Ryann on his quest.
All in all, it's a nice book - not something I'd read over and over again, but I enjoyed it. I gave a copy to my friend Scott for Christmas this morning; he was halfway through by noon. He really loved it.
Rating: A solid 8.5/10
Ryann Watters... or The Lost Years of Merlin?: Like I said, the similarity between the two fictional worlds ends at their miraculous beauty, but as a novel overall, I enjoyed The Lost Years of Merlin more. The description is just more vivid and the plot line, for me, is more engaging.
Happy reading!

PS: Happy holidays to everybody, though I will be posting again soon - I handed out my presents to my friends today. I gave a lot of them custom boxes. Ayisha got one that said "Mrs. Cloud Strife", Sam got fuzzy socks, the other Sam got a box that said "Mrs. Vincent Valentine", Ale (ally) got a box that said "Newborn - Watch Your Neck" (Yes, it's a Twilight reference) and Gerald got one that said, "Mr. Alice Cullen".
Be creative this holiday season!

Hey Nicole... I'm glad you took the time to read my book! I've never read "The Lost Years of Merline," but it sounds interesting. I hope you'll give my second book a chance. Ryann Watters and the Shield of Faith comes out May 5th, 2009 and it is 400+ pages, filled with dragons, unicorns, pegasus, more action and twists and turns than book 1. You can check out the updates at www.ryannwatters.blogspot.com. Thanks again,
