Demon Princess

Demon Princess
Author: Michelle Rowen
Series: Demon Princess
Publisher: Walker & Company
How Received: borrowed

As if trying to fit in at a new school isn't stressful enough, sixteen-year-old Nikki Donovan just found out that her long-lost father is, in fact, the demon king of the Shadowlands—the world that separates and protects us from the Underworld. When she is brought there by the mysterious—and surprisingly cute—messenger Michael, she learns that her father is dying, and he wants her to assume the throne. To complicate matters, a war is brewing between the Shadowlands and the Underworld, her half-demon qualities are manifesting, and her gowing feelings for Michael are completely forbidden. Ruling a kingdom, navigating a secret crush, and still making it home by curfew—what's a teenage demon princess to do?

I really enjoyed this until about the last four chapters. I loved the plot, I loved the characters. But then... the characters changed really quickly. Everything that should have taken about another 100 pages to be done adequately was done in about twenty, and the end was ridiculously fast paced. It was a great book up until then, but the end kind of ruined it for me.

Overall Rating: 7/10
Demon Princess or Bliss?: I remember distinctly hating Bliss by the time I got to the end of it. Demon Princess, at least, I have a character (the Shadow stalking Nikki) that I loved. In Bliss, I had nobody. So... Demon Princess wins.

  1. This looks really good - it's rare we see demons ever in a good light. Seems like a fun read, even with the blip about the ending being a little fast. I'll have to give it a shot. Thanks for sharing your review! :)

  2. I hate when books have bad endings, it always ruins the whole of the book.

Well, I just got this novel but haven't started reading it yet. Hopefully I'll like it!

  3. It was fast, but not bad. I read it in one day, and there really wasn't that much to say about the end anyway. It was fast, but not in a way that it should've taken REALLY long to elaborate on it. It was understandable, and a good book overall. I gve it 8.5/10
