Jenny Nimmo
Charlie doesn't want to believe it. Just the other day, he was as normal as an eleven year old boy can get. Now, he's twelve and all of a sudden, he can talk to pictures.
They talk back.
Now Charlie has to leave his friends and school to attend Bloor's Academy for Gifted Children. While there, though, Charlie must also find someone: a child lost as a baby, if the adults are telling the truth. But he also needs to watch out - there are more enemies than friends waiting inside hte chilly walls of Bloor's, and they want him gone. Permanently.
Yay, review time! (Not as yay as the last couple weeks, but still yay.) This is yet another series, and probably one of the harder ones to figure out. This one was just a little bit better than average. It does pick up towards the end, though, so it is worth reading.
Midnight for Charlie Bone or The Seven Songs of Merlin?: Sorry, Mra. Nimmo, but magic > powers every time. Merlin all the way!
Rating: 7/10.
Look out for book two within the month!

I have to say, I've read the complete series (seven of them so far and number 8 to be arriving in September) and I throughly enjoyed them. True, I was slightly younger at the time, but I've re-read them since and still liked them a lot. Jenny Nimmo is a really good author and I liked most of her slightly more adult books, like Milo's Wolves and The Rinaldi Ring.
ReplyDeleteThis series is incredibly popular with my middls school students. I didn't know there was a new one coming out soon. Thanks for the heads-up. The kids will be thrilled.
ReplyDeleteI loved this series as a kid, but stopped reading after he found his father the first time (book 5?) because I started moving on to harder reads and thought it was unnecessary and liked the ending as it was.
ReplyDeleteRocs- i totally agree, her books are really good, it's the first time i've read this one in a couple of years. the more adult ones are also good, but this series stands out for me! :)
ReplyDeletereadingjunky- sorry for the misunderstanding. i meant the review of book number two. i know, i want another book for the series also :(
mik- book five does have a good ending. however, i reccomend reading the other ones you passed over when you get a chance, they help round out the series more..Or not, it's up to you really.
random thought: do you guys think i'm doing a good job? i never get feedback from anyone but nicki.
