On January 1, I made two wishes. I know it's supposed to be resolutions, but the two things I really wanted you can't exactly make happen, like you can with resolutions.
The tabloids call her kiss "The Kiss of Death". Scarlett Wakefield transfered away from St. Tabby's to Wakefield Hall Collegiate in order to get away from that nickname. Her kiss killed Dan McAndrew. Her first kiss. With the guy of her dreams.
Dan McAndrew took his last breath as she held him in her arms.
Because nobody knows why he died, Scarlett blames herself. Hiding in Wakefield is her own way of trying to forget that it's ever happened. But hiding isn't as easy as she thinks when she finds out that somebody knows just what happened that night...
I have to admit, I really did like this book. It was interesting and well written and an enjoyable read.
Scarlett is a different and brutally honest character. Not many main characters would abandon their friends - it's something that, stereotypically, main characters don't do. With few exceptions, they're the 'better' ones. Their friends would have convinced them to go to the party; in Scarlett's case, she left them. It was one of the most honest portrayals of a character I've seen in a long time.
Then, of course, there was the plot. I figured out about thirteen pages after Dan's death the reason for his death - how did it take Scarlett so long? To top it all off, if her new found sidekick was such a big detective, why didn't she go over everything and ask her what she ate at the party?
Obvious plot loops annoy me.
Overall, though, it really was fantastic. The ending was an obvious segway into the next novel, but I'm looking forward to reading it, so I didn't mind so much.
Kiss Me Kill Me or Same Difference?: Siobhan Vivian's novel is much, much different than Kiss Me Kill Me, though both have characters that differ from the novels around them. Overall, though, I think I enjoyed SD more than KMKM. Both are fantastic, however.
