Oh. My. Gods.

Oh. My. Gods.
Author: Tera Lynn Childs
Series: Oh. My. Gods. (#1)
Publisher: Penguin Group
How Received: school library

The last thing I need is to make my arrival strapped to a gurney pushed by some fictional warrior princess. That is not the way to make a good impression - if this stupid school is anything like Pacific Park, gossip makes the rounds faster than the flu.

Phoebe Castro is set. Keep a solid grade point average, run and win for the cross country team - and attending USC with her friends will be some of the best years on her life.

Of course, her mother marrying a complete stranger and moving them to Greece wasn't in the cards.

Neither was discovering that she's stuck on a secret island attending a superexclusive Academy full of half gods. If regular high school weren't bad enough, this is mortal misery.

What's a mere mortal to do?

I'm not going to say Oh. My. Gods. was anything spectacular. It wasn't.

Was it a fun read? Hell yeah.

That's all it is, though; a delicious piece of brain candy. Though interesting enough, there's no substance to it. Sure, the Greek gods are fun to read about and what not, and superpowers always make for an interesting time, but with a predictable plot and less than original characters, it was just a way to pass a few hours time.

One of it's biggest flaws came from the evil stepsister act. If this had been a remake of a fairy tale, I'd be all for it. But making the stepsister evil, even if she changed as the book went along, is rather stereotypical. (I just finished Goddess Boot Camp, the sequel, and luckily the evil stepsister bit fades away entirely.) Though it fit the story, it was unnecessary. You could have just used the girls at school for that.
Plot line? So predictable. Who would've thought that her father, being Greek, was secretly a half god, too!? And that her mom married the a half god twice!? And that she was a descendant of -gasp- Nike! Oh, lordy lou.

And really? Because you have a boyfriend, it's okay to dump everything and go to Oxford with him. Your life revolves around him. Totally.
Overall Rating & Final Comments: 6/10. Nothing special, but if you're in the mood for not vampire brain candy, it's the way to go.

 5. They were certainly a lot easier to manage: just offer a few sacrifices, be careful not to annoy them, and they'd leave you alone. No pesky requirements to love your neighbor or live a holy life. Just an ongoing series of parties.

 6. I was on goodreads, looking for alternatives to Percy Jackson series, as I had finished them all but I was still addicted to Greek Mythology. When I came across this book I was instantly hooked. I had to have it. The excerpt was good. Upon reading it, I found it to be a decent read. Phoebe was humorous and I found it interesting that for the majority of the book, she was the odd one out in a school full of kids with godly powers. I found the stereotypical groupings annoying. Seriously, Childs? Make the Posiedon kids beach goers with fried brains from the heat of the sun? And all the Zeus kids are super popular? Lovely. The kids were not demi-gods. They were descendants of the gods. WAY down the family line. So the fact that most of them had so much power was unbelievable to me, but I went with it. Overall, it was entertaining but there was not enough action in it for me, hence why Percy Jackson is forever my favorite Greek Myth adaptation series.
