Here are my TOP THREE worst adaptions. What are YOUR top three?
BeowulfBook By: Unknown

Director: Robert Zemeckis
Companies Involved: Paramount Pictures
IMDB: link
The warrior Beowulf must fight and defeat the monster Grendel who is terrorizing towns, and later, Grendel's mother, who begins killing out of revenge.
Dear Zemeckis:
The moment you made Grendel's mother "sexy" was the moment I stopped watching.
Love, me.
EragonBook By: Christopher Paolini
Starring: Ed Speleers
Director: Stefen Fangmeier
Companies Involved: Fox 2000 Pictures
IMDB: link
In his homeland of Alagaesia, a farm boy happens upon a dragon's egg -- a discovery that leads him on a predestined journey where he realized he's the one person who can defend his home against an evil king.
Casting: Win.
Acting: Alright; not too horrible.
CGI: Bloody fantastic.
Plot: ... what plot?
TwilightBook By: Stephenie Meyer
Starring: Kristen Stewart & Robert Pattinson
Director: Catherine Hardwicke
Companies Involved: Summit Entertainment
IMDB: link
A teenage girl risks everything when she falls in love with a vampire.
Oh, shut up, fangirls.
I mean, I was a huge fan of the novel at one point. I since realized that I was a silly impressionable tween. (My sister has not made the same mistake.) From the gazillion and four character flaws to the gazillion and four writing flaws, there's not much that could make this book worse.
Except for RPatz's stone acting, KStewart's constant lip biting, and the horror that is the script writing.
Those were my top three worst adaptions. What are YOUR top three?
I haven't watched any of those, but I have heard again and again, a whole bunch of negative things directed at them. Good thing I didn't waste my time! :D
ReplyDeleteI have to go with the 2005 Earthsea adaptation with Shawn Ashmore and Kristin Kreuk. I think Ursula LeGuin's letter debunking it on her website some time ago was pretty eloquent.
ReplyDeleteSince Beowulf is a favorite, I refused to watch the adaptation when I heard how they were changing it. I saw Eragon once, but never again.
Okay, I may be in the minority here, but I don't think Twilight was THAT bad. :) I'm a fan of the director, who's the lady behind 2 of my fave movies: Lords of Dogtown and Thirteen. Plus, R. Patz is an actual decent actor--there's just not much he can do with that role. I really enjoyed him in Remember Be.
ReplyDeleteThe Eragon movie adaption made me SO ANGRY. The casting was decent, the acting was pretty bad in my opinion, the script was the worst part. They changed such basic elements, and it became so...stupid.
ReplyDeleteAnd I originally was obliviously in love with the Twilight movie, but now I really can't stand it except to laugh...
haha I love your notes at the end!
ReplyDeleteWhere the Wild Things are was terrible. I loved that book as a kid.
ReplyDeleteThe Golden Compass was a flop too.
Haha wow you hit the nail on the head with this one. Eragon was TERRIBLE. O.O
ReplyDeleteAlso, Ella Enchanted as a movie was a big fail considering they didn't even use the storyline in any way. Ugh. That movie does not deserve the title of the amazing book.
