I have a fifty/fifty love for illustrated covers and normally I'm not a fan of this kind of illustration.
However, it's so awesome that I have to like it.
We've got a woman holding a weapon in a non-sexualized pose (even with her hair flying everywhere) and I love it. There's the hippogriff or whatever the hell it is -- I can't remember the name of it -- in the top corner being all, "I'M CRAZY AWESOME LOOK AT ME" and the color combination is just awesome.
Overall, it's just awesome.
Except, maybe, the font for Stormdancer. I'm not a fan, but that's the only thing I dislike. (Well, that and the quote in the corner, but I hate quotes on fronts of books as a whole.)
What about you? Fan of the font? Of the sword? Of the not-a-hippogriff?

I love the cover too especially the red, which I find very eye-catching!
ReplyDeleteADORE this cover -- although not quite as much as the lovely UK version -- but what is with that weird triangular hole in her pants?
ReplyDeleteI really like the cover! I don't like the quote on the front either, but this cover really makes me want to pick up the book!
ReplyDeleteFor an illustrated cover, this one really is awesome. Everything about it is beautiful. I love the read and black color scheme. I love the flowered pattern on the background. The girl and the flying teagle (that's tiger eagle) look awesome. Beautiful! Wait, did I say everything? I really meant to say almost everything. Really. What is up with that font? I think it's trying too hard to look Asian. Considering all of the other awesomeness on the front cover, I think the title font could have been toned down a little bit. I don't really care for how it's trying to mimic the color and sheen of the katana either.
ReplyDeleteWhat's with all those long blurbs on the front cover of books? I don't buy books based on other author's blurbs on covers. I buy books based on the beauty of the cover! And that blurb is really distracting! *tongue in cheek* I also buy books based on other bloggers' reviews.
