Julie Kagawa's newest novel, The Lost Prince, comes out on October 23 and takes place in the same world as the Iron Fey series - so how could I resist the offer to kick off her tour? (This was supposed to go up this morning, but there was an ISSUE with the post. But it's here now!)
To kick it all off, we're starting with an excerpt that takes us back to where it all began - and a giveaway!
Julie Kagawa: "In this scene from The Iron King, Ethan Chase is only four years old. It is the first time the reader gets a hint that Ethan might see things that others do not, and foreshadows not only his being kidnapped in The Iron King but also his far-off next adventure into the Nevernever as the seventeen year old hero of The Lost Prince."
“Meggie?” Ethan hovered in the doorway, clutching his rabbit under his chin. His blue eyes regarded me somberly.
“Can I go with you today?”
“What?” Shrugging into my jacket, I gazed around for my backpack. “No, Ethan. I’m going to school now. Big-kids school, no rug rats allowed.” I turned away, only to feel two small arms wrap around my leg. Putting my hand against the wall to avoid falling, I glared down at my half brother. Ethan clung to me doggedly, his face tilted up to mine, his jaw set.
“Please?” he begged. “I’ll be good, I promise. Take me with you? Just for today?”
With a sigh, I bent down and picked him up. “What’s up, squirt?” I asked, brushing his hair out of his eyes. Mom would need to cut it soon; it was starting to look like a bird’s nest. “You’re awfully clingy this morning. What’s going on?”
“Scared,” Ethan muttered, burying his face in my neck.
He shook his head. “Floppy’s scared.”
“What’s Floppy scared of?”
“The man in the closet.”
I felt a small chill slide up my back.
We also have a giveaway of The Lost Prince and a necklace up for grabs! (See, photos below! They're really pretty!) And Bloggers Heart Books is the next stop, and I like them, so you should visit them on October 18.
Don't look at Them. Never let Them know you can see Them. That is Ethan Chase's unbreakable rule. Until the fey he avoids at all costs—including his reputation—begin to disappear, and Ethan is attacked. Now he must change the rules to protect his family. To save a girl he never thought he'd dare to fall for.
Ethan thought he had protected himself from his older sister's world—the land of Faery. His previous time in the Iron Realm left him with nothing but fear and disgust for the world Meghan Chase has made her home, a land of myth and talking cats, of magic and seductive enemies. But when destiny comes for Ethan, there is no escape from a danger long, long forgotten.
