It's not because it's not pretty; the cover is, objectively, very nice looking. Good colors, good font choice.
Perhaps it is because I'm bored of passive covers. Is everybody panicking in the days before the apocalypse? Trying to figure out what to do? Or are we just rolling around passively in a meadow?
Now, I haven't read the book; maybe the scene does involve a couple on a meadow, and I do like how determinedly the girl is looking up from the cover. But for a book that's trying to be original among dystopians, it's been trapped with a very cliched contemporary cover. I don't get dystopian from it at all.
What do you guys think?

I don't see how the cover and the blurb match up - but I'm curious and would pick it up at a bookstore.
ReplyDeleteLovely enough that we would definitely take a look.
ReplyDeleteIt's pretty, but you're right it definitely has a contemporary feel to it. I wouldn't think dystopian at all based on the cover alone. I, too, am now curious about this book though!
ReplyDeleteI am in love with this cover and the idea of this book. I hope it will be very lyrical -- that's the vibe I get from it. I like that it looks more contemporary than sci-fi/fantasy, because it sounds like this is going to be a book about contemporary times. The focus isn't on the disaster itself, but how everyone deals with it. It sounds and looks like a character study not an action/adventure. I love the way the girl is both defiantly and passively staring at the camera, and it feels a lot like the posters for Melancholia where Kirsten Dunst has that same kind of look. I only hope that the book can live up to my expectations! I thought I was burnt out on post-apocalyptic stories, but this sounds like it could be different.
ReplyDeleteWow! I never would have thought this was a dystopian novel. I thought it was a romance book.
ReplyDeleteLove the new look to the blog!
I'm not seeing dystopia either from this cover-there should be more danger based on what you shared.
ReplyDeleteI actually really like this cover but a huge turn off for me is the & sign around the character's faces. It completely ruins it. I see what they were trying to do but it didn't work. At all. It takes so much away. I hadn't heard of this book before and I'm surprised to hear it is dystopian. Still sounds pretty good though!
ReplyDelete"rolling around passively in a meadow" haha! This cover is too TWILIGHT for me. Sorry. Not that there can never be a couple in a meadow... but it's just too soon. Plus, the clothes are all wrong. Flannel shirt + dressy dress.
ReplyDeleteFirst off, this cover is far too busy and the models' poses are just boring. It looks like a contemporary romance, not a dystopian. Maybe it's good that they're mixing things up and not designing a cover to fit the norm, but there's nothing in this cover that would make me want to read the book. The description sounds interesting, though.
